editorial designer specializing in publication design & typesetting
hello!
Nice to meet you! I’m Hadley, an Editorial Designer based in Chicago, specializing in publication design and typesetting. I work with publishers, magazines, and authors to design, layout, and typeset the covers and interiors of their publications.
My excitement for, and experience in, a diversity of creative endeavors (fashion, knitting, art, writing, and more) allows me to craft tailored work that ranges from simple and sleek to experimental and innovative.
I want you to be in love with your publication, so I take the time to get to know you and your work before jumping in.
I consider your style, your budget, readability, and accessibility in all choices: from margin widths to typography to avoiding word/letter/punctuation stacks. I excel in tedious tasks that require meticulousness and attention to detail, so typesetting is one of my favorite things to do!
From ensuring an authentic representation of a publication to using em dashes and en dashes correctly, I immerse myself in the details of your project to create something you love.
I love all things 80s (including New Order, shoulder pads, and funky color combinations).
I worked at Reckless Records (Belmont!) for my first year living in Chicago.
I color-code everything, love Notion databases (basically highly intricate spreadsheets), and am just generally a huge nerd when it comes to organizing and project management.
I named my cat after Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Let's be friends!
Introduce yourself on email or LinkedIn. Even if you aren’t looking for a designer or typesetter, I love getting to know people who are interested in the same things as I am. Tell me about you!
