Publication design and typesetting services for print and digital

I’ve worked hard to streamline the editorial design process and make it as simple, intuitive, and pleasant for you as possible.

Below, I’ve outlined what each process often looks like. However, the exact details will be included in your custom Project Overview, which I will provide after getting to know you and your project a bit more.

My Welcome Packet goes over all the details of what to expect from working with me, from pricing to timeline to process.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me!

Interior Design and Typesetting

1. Sample Page Design(s)

Using a representative portion of your book, I create 1 or more sample page designs for you that are unique to your book/magazine. You choose which one you like the best and/or let me know of any modifications you’d like me to make (the “revisions”).

2. Layout, and typesetting

Once we’ve solidified your interior design, I layout and typeset your entire publication.

3. Typesetting edits

I send you Version 1 as a pdf. You proofread every page, add your edits, then send it back to me. I revise accordingly, send Version 2, and we go back and forth until things look good to you. After you’ve approved the interior, I send you the final files.

Cover Design

1. Mood board

After reading some (or all) of your book and considering your design preferences, I create a mood board for your cover and make adjustments until you’re satisfied with the creative direction.

2. Cover concepts

I create at least 3 unique cover concepts with original and/or sourced art/design, and you choose which one you like best.

3. Revisions

I revise the cover concept until it looks good to you. After you’ve approved the cover, I send you the final files.

Lovely people saying kind things about me <3

Hadley Hendrix is creative, communicative, accommodating, and professional at each step of the design process. I appreciated the mood boards she assembled for us, and the thoughtful annotations she provided with each design option. I appreciated that she was able to work from, and adjust to, multiple streams of input and feedback – from her own response to the text, my initial editorial brief, and the author’s reaction to the proposed designs – all of which culminated in a final design that works beautifully for the book.

– Paul Vermeersch | Senior Editor at Wolsak & Wynn

When asked “What made you happiest about working with me?”:

Your genuine desire for excellence.

– Terry Lucas | Poet Laureate Emeritus of Marin County, California & Guest Editor at The Banyan Review

Hadley is hands-down the most organized person I’ve ever worked with, and her design skills are top notch. I was not expecting a detailed PowerPoint-style layout of the project timeline, but it was delightful!

– Christine Neulieb | Editorial Director at Lanternfish Press
